BAN CHALE RAM RAGHURAI

The song “Ban Chale Ram Raghurai” from Sant Tulsidas (1939) is a personal favorite. It describes the scene where Shri Ram is leaving for the forest with his wife and brother. The agony of Shri Ram’s parents and the people of Ayodhya is beautifully described in simple words with soothing music. Vishnupant ji’s singing style is very pleasing to the ears. We could not find accurate lyrics of this song online. After multiple hearings of the original and Hariharan ji’s recital of this song, we think we have finally managed to get all the words. Today we present this song with audio (link on Youtube) and lyrics. We hope listeners will like it as much as we do.

Tidbit: If you never heard this song before but still find this melody familiar its because you might have heard the famous “Ek Chatur Naar” from Padosan (1968). Pancham Da has cleverly adapted this famous 1939 number for the lines “Dekhi Teri Chaturai” in that song.
